Some journeys feel special from the very first step, and this one fell into that category. As guests made their way to London Heathrow, anticipation was already building for an adventure that would span continents, cultures, and unforgettable sporting occasions.
The Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt lifted off in the late afternoon, beginning a smooth transition from London to mainland Europe. A brief stop in Frankfurt allowed time to stretch the legs before boarding the overnight flight bound for South America. As the aircraft climbed into the night sky, thoughts turned to what lay ahead: Argentina, its racing heritage, vibrant cities, and extraordinary landscapes.
By morning, Buenos Aires came into view. The adventure was about to begin with transfers to the stylish Hotel Madero, located in the modern waterfront district of Puerto Madero. Over the coming days, this would become a comfortable and perfectly placed base for exploring the city. That first evening, the group gathered for a welcome dinner at a traditional Spanish restaurant, a relaxed introduction to Argentine cuisine and hospitality after the long journey.
The following morning began with a guided tour designed to introduce the many layers of Buenos Aires. Travelling by coach and on foot, the group explored the city’s contrasting neighbourhoods, grand boulevards and historic squares, gaining a real sense of its European elegance and Latin American soul. The afternoon was left free to explore independently before the evening delivered one of the city’s most iconic experiences, a VIP tango show. Against a backdrop of music, movement and passion, the night captured the spirit of Argentina perfectly.
Thursday took the group beyond the city limits to Tigre, the gateway to the Parana Delta. A leisurely cruise through the waterways revealed a completely different side of the country, where life unfolds along riverbanks and wooden jetties. After time to explore the town and enjoy lunch, the evening was left open for guests to relax.
Friday was deliberately unstructured, offering a chance to dive deeper into Buenos Aires at a personal pace, whether that meant wandering San Telmo’s markets, lingering in cafes, or simply soaking up the rhythm of the city.
Saturday marked the first major racing highlight. The group travelled to San Isidro for a day of Group 1 racing, experiencing Argentine horse racing in an atmosphere that is both passionate and deeply rooted in tradition. The excitement of the track, the quality of the horses and the enthusiasm of the local crowd made for a memorable introduction to racing in South America.
Before long, it was time for the next chapter. An early start on Sunday saw the group fly north to Iguazu, where the pace of life slowed dramatically. Surrounded by subtropical rainforest, the Loi Suites Iguaza provided a stunning setting for the days ahead. With the afternoon free to unwind, guests explored the hotel’s pools, riverside relaxation areas and jungle walkways before gathering for dinner in the evening.
The following day delivered one of the true natural wonders of the world. Exploring the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls, the group ventured deep into the national park, culminating in an exhilarating boat ride beneath the cascades themselves, an experience that left no one dry but everyone smiling. Wildlife, rainforest trails and dramatic viewpoints filled the rest of a truly unforgettable day.
Tuesday offered a contrasting perspective, crossing into Brazil to view the falls from another angle. With sweeping vistas and views of Devil’s Throat, it was the perfect complement to the previous day’s adventure, showcasing the scale and power of this extraordinary landscape.
Midweek saw a return to Buenos Aires, settling back into Hotel Madero for the second phase of the journey. After a relaxed evening, the next day brought an exceptional insider experience: a private visit to Haras El Mallin. Hosted by Antonio Bullrich, one of Argentina’s most influential figures in thoroughbred breeding and bloodstock, the day offered rare insight into the country’s racing and breeding industry, complete with a tour of the farm and lunch with the Bullrich family.
The following days continued to blend culture, sport and leisure. Friday allowed time to explore at will, before Saturday delivered another racing highlight, the Argentinian Derby at Palermo. As the oldest and most prestigious race in the country, the Gran Premio Nacional was the centrepiece of a superb day, enjoyed from the racecourse’s hospitality facilities with food and drink included.
Sunday brought a change of pace but no reduction in spectacles. At the Campo Argentino de Polo, often referred to as the ‘Cathedral of Polo’, guests witnessed two matches, including play on the famous main pitch. Watching the world’s finest polo players compete in the Argentine Open was a rare privilege and a fitting continuation of the sporting theme.
Monday offered one final cultural immersion with a Gaucho Day, celebrating Argentina’s rural traditions, horsemanship and cuisine. The day concluded with a farewell dinner, bringing together memories from a journey that had delivered far more than anyone could have imagined.
For those continuing on the Bariloche extension, the adventure was far from over. Flying south into Patagonia, the group arrive in Bariloche, surrounded by lakes and mountains. Over the next few days, boat trips across Lake Nahuel Huapi, visits to Isla Victoria and the Arrayanes Forest, panoramic viewpoints, beer tastings and relaxed evenings rounded off the journey in spectacular fashion.
An experience that will live long in memory!
