We’ve had an incredibly busy few months here at Wolverhampton Racecourse, with plenty of highlights both on and off the track. From major fixtures to memorable visits and exciting new developments, it’s been a fantastic period for everyone connected to the racecourse.
A taxi driver whose enthusiasm for greyhound racing led to him receiving his training license a year ago made history on Monday morning when winning the first race at Dunstall Park.
Jak Knape first worked with greyhounds in 2011 as a kennel hand to Pauline Spragg, but he’ll be remembered for being the first winning trainer at the new Wolverhampton track after Sovereign Poppy won the venue’s opening race.
In August, a group of our members enjoyed an exclusive stable visit to Dave Loughnane’s yard, getting a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at life in a busy training operation. Guests were treated to a morning on the gallops, the chance to meet some of the stable’s talented horses, and insight into the hard work and dedication that goes into preparing runners for the track.
