Ron Mason and Agnes Shine on the World Stage

Ron Mason, Head Groundsman and Estates Manager at Chepstow, along with his loyal dog, Agnes, represented the UK at the World Championships for Bikejoring in Italy last November. The duo proudly finished as the first Brits across the line, securing 25th place overall.

Now, Ron and Agnes are back in full training mode, preparing for the upcoming British and European Championships. Their dedication and teamwork continue to inspire everyone at Chepstow.

Craig Jones: Welsh Groundsman of the Year

Chepstow's very own Craig Jones was honoured with the Welsh Groundsman of the Year Award at the recent Welsh Horseracing Awards. Craig is celebrating an incredible 44 years of service at the track, having started his journey on April 22, 1981, as a builder’s labourer. One of his earliest tasks was assisting in plastering the Persian War Bar, a space fondly remembered by many owners and trainers.

Over the years, Craig transitioned to the ground staff, where he began building and repairing fences and hurdles alongside Alan Quinton. Craig also had the privilege of working for many years with the late Robert Mottram, a highly respected Head Groundsman. Beyond Chepstow, Craig has built jumps for numerous local trainers, showcasing his craftsmanship and dedication to the sport.

Alan Quinton: A Legacy of Excellence

Alan Quinton, who has worked side-by-side with Craig for over 37 years, recently retired from his full-time role on the grounds team. Alan’s skill and extensive knowledge, however, won’t be leaving us entirely; he will continue contributing part-time.

Both Craig and Alan have been invaluable members of the team, their hard work and expertise leaving a lasting impact on Chepstow. Their contributions are deeply appreciated, and they remain integral to the success and history of the course.

Luke Admans Highlighted in Racing Post as Chepstow's New Manager

The Racing Post recently featured Luke Admans in their "Racing Grapevine" section, recognising his appointment as the new manager of Chepstow Racecourse. Luke’s arrival comes at a crucial time, as preparations was well underway for the prestigious Welsh Grand National.

Admans steps into his role with a clear vision to uphold Chepstow’s reputation as a premier racing venue, while embracing the challenges and opportunities that come with managing one of the UK’s most iconic racecourses. The Welsh Grand National, a cornerstone of the racing calendar, demands exceptional planning and coordination, and Luke is ready to lead with dedication and expertise.

With a strong passion for horseracing and a commitment to enhancing the experience for both racegoers and participants, Admans is well-positioned to make a lasting impact at Chepstow. The Welsh Grand National is not only a celebration of racing heritage but also a testament to the racecourse's dedication to delivering outstanding events.
