It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks at Newcastle Racecourse, with highlights including a lively Gosforth Park Cup Night featuring live music and some thrilling racing under the lights, including a competitive renewal of the Gosforth Park Cup itself.

The showpiece Northumberland Plate Day followed in style, where 25/1 shot Spirit Mixer stormed to victory in another incredible renewal of the race. Trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Rob Hornby, the seven-year-old gelding travelled smoothly through the race, making his move two furlongs from home and staying on strongly to edge out Dancing In Paris by a neck. It marked a well-deserved success for the horse who had finished second to Trueshan in 2023 and ninth in 2024, making this a third-time-lucky triumph in one of the season’s most competitive races.
