St. Moritz Grand Prix Weekend

Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, St. Moritz hosts one of the most extraordinary racing spectacles in the world, White Turf. This prestigious event, dating back to 1907, sees thoroughbreds thunder across a frozen lake, competing in various disciplines, including flat racing, trotting, and the exhilarating skijoring.

Unique to White Turf, skijoring is a test of speed and endurance where jockeys, equipped with only a tow rope, are pulled behind galloping horses at remarkable speeds. With origins in Scandinavian winter traditions, skijoring has become a signature feature of White Turf, drawing elite competitors and spectators year after year.

Beyond the racing, the journey to St. Moritz is an experience in itself. Many visitors travel via the renowned Glacier Express, a breathtaking rail journey that winds through snow-covered valleys, across towering viaducts, and alongside dramatic alpine peaks. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into an atmosphere of elegance and excitement, where world-class hospitality meets high-octane sport.

St. Moritz offers a wealth of winter activities to complement the racing experience. Visitors can take to the slopes for skiing, embark on a thrilling 6km sledge run, or witness the adrenaline-fueled Cresta Run, a daring toboggan descent that has been a tradition since the 1880s. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the frozen lake provides the perfect backdrop for social gatherings, fine dining, and exclusive après-ski entertainment.

Race day itself is a spectacle like no other. The lake, meticulously prepared to withstand the thunder of hooves, transforms into a snow-covered racetrack, lined with grandstands filled with enthusiastic spectators.

The highlight of the event is the Grosser Preis von St. Moritz, where elite horses and jockeys compete for a prestigious title and substantial prize money. With access to the parade ring and prime viewing spots, guests can immerse themselves in the energy of the races, celebrating both the tradition and the innovation that make White Turf an unmissable fixture in the racing calendar.
