On the track, it may still be early in the autumn campaign, but Ammes has already made a big impression on the jumps scene, earning a notable move in the betting for next year’s Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The James Owen-trained youngster made a smooth transition to hurdles, cruising to a commanding five-length success in the 2m1f juvenile maiden under champion jockey Sean Bowen. Having shown promise on the Flat — including a win at Chepstow in May and a runner-up finish in a handicap at Glorious Goodwood — he looks a natural over obstacles.

Following that performance, bookmakers Unibet trimmed Ammes’ odds for the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle on March 13 to 25-1 from 50-1. It marked Bowen’s 92nd winner of the season, and the rider noted there’s more to come once the gelding sharpens up his jumping.

Sean Bowen and Gavin Sheehan both rode doubles at our most recent meeting with the Champion Jockey bringing up his 100th winner of the season already - a remarkable achievement! Bowen's ride on Isle Of Sark for his brother Mickey was arguably the ride of the day, collaring Dickens after the final hurdle under another power-packed ride.
